I was excited to tryElizabeth Dehn for One Love Organics Vitamin C Serum ($75). I have read so many positive reviews of products by One Love Organics and was interested to see what they were all about. According to their website, One Love Organics was created to offer a simpler approach to beauty: a sensitive yet effective alternative to all those ubiquitous bottles and the mysterious stuff they contain. Plant-based formulas are used to nourish and balance all skin types — so they're perfect for everyone. Additionally, the company always uses ingredients that are 100% natural, high quality cold-pressed oils, organic (where possible), fair trade (when possible), cruelty free and chemical-free. They never use petrochemicals, parabens, sodium lauryl sulfate, harsh surfactants, chemical additives, preservatives, synthetics dyes or fragrances, phthalates, silicones, synthetic vitamin E or propylene glycol.

As someone who wants to use the "cleanest," safest, non-toxic products available, One Love Organics was right up my alley. But would they deliver?  Could products this natural and clean be effective? I was excited to try, but somewhat skeptical; it almost sounded too good to be true.

A bit about my skin —  I am 50, and have combination skin with an oily t-zone. However, I live in the midwest, and my skin suffers from dehydration in the winter. I have some minor sun damage and hyperpigmentation, only a few wrinkles around my eyes, and have recently noticed a loss of elasticity. I prefer to use clean, healthy and natural skincare products, but have struggled to find a hydrating serum that performs well. Most I have tried have been mediocre at best, with few or no visible results.

Now onto the product. The description on the box says "this 100% face serum uses a potent mix of antioxidants to naturally brighten and replenish skin for a more radiant, even-toned complexion. An ultra-concentrated combination of vitamins A, C (l-ascorbyl palmitate), D, & E and antioxidants from organic green tea oil and sea buckthorn oil help protect against free radicals that can cause photo damage and skin discoloration. Rich in the rare fatty acid Omega 7 and Omega 3, 6, 9 fatty acids, this serum helps to restore moisture levels and helps to minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles."

I used One Love Organics Vitamin C Serum as directed: in the morning as a makeup primer and moisturizer, and at night. I loved this product for evening use. It is a silky, mid-weight serum that applies smoothly. It took some time to absorb, but since I was going to bed, I didn't mind. I used the serum every night, and wow — what a difference. I noticed significant improvement in the texture of my skin — it was so baby soft!  It brightened my skin, and decreased my hyperpigmentation and sun spots significantly. I have tried other vitamin C products, and found that many were too harsh or irritating, but this one did not irritate at all. My skin looks radiant in the morning, and seems to glow. It has definitely hydrated my skin during this harsh start to winter, too. Unfortunately, I tried this serum several times for daytime use, and for me, it just didn't work. It didn't absorb into my skin well, and even after I applied my make-up, my face still had a tacky, wet feeling. I tried decreasing the amounts, and waiting a longer amount of time before applying my make-up, but I still could not get rid of that wet feeling. So I came to the conclusion that daytime use was not going to work for me.

In sum, this product really delivers without the nasty ingredients found in so many products. After using this serum for nearly a month, I am really starting to see some improvements in my skin. My brown spots have faded, my skin is hydrated but not greasy, and feels baby soft. I have a radiant, healthy glow... and for someone my age, that is amazing. And the price? Definitely affordable. A little goes a long way with this serum. I would definitely recommend this product.

Editor's note: this product has recently been reformulated. The original ingredients were: Organic Camellia Sinensis (Green Tea) Seed Oil, Organic Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Seed Oil, Organic Adansonia Digitata (Baobab) Oil, Poly- Hydroxystearic Acid, Sambucus Nigra Fruit Extract (Elderberry) Extract, L-ascorbyl Palmitate (Vitamin C), Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Organic Supercritical Hippophae Rhamnoides (Sea Buckthorn) Oil, Organic Rosehip (Rosa Canina) Fruit Extract, Proprietary Natural and Organic Fragrance
